Blues coach Michael Voss makes citizens arrest amid alleged car thief

Carlton coach Michael Voss reportedly made a citizens arrest on Tuesday morning following an alleged car thief in Hawthorn.

Seen at local cafe Barton Milk Bar getting his morning coffee, a report from Channel 9's Tom Morris indicated that Voss managed to "tackle the teenage suspect and hold him until police arrived".

The car had reportedly flipped, with two guys fleeing from the car, with another onlooker saying, "Without hesitation, Voss ran after them both and performed a citizens arrest".

According to The Age, the cafe confirmed that the Blues coach returned to get his coffee.

"It was a bit of action... I was hoping to be on a couple of days break, but it's all good here," Voss told 9News.

"I have spoken to the police, but everyone is safe and healthy, and that is all that matters.

"Hopefully, it will get dealt with quickly."

Cafe owner James Laskie joined Voss in the chase of the alleged car thieves and provided a comment.

“Once the two men got out of the vehicle and got their belongings, they sprinted up the street,” Laskie said, according to the Herald Sun.

“Michael Voss started chasing them, and so I chased after them as well.”

“They went into an apartment block, and it's pretty hectic, and one of them got away, but he (Voss) grabbed the second guy and had him on the floor,” Mr Laskie said.

“And I tried to chase after the other guy, but he was too fast for me, and so we were fortunate enough to get one of them.

“It was a pretty hectic morning.”

Laskie said that the teenager who was apprehended by Voss was carrying "a large knife" and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Laskie quipped by saying the offender was no rival for Voss, alluding to his power and strength, something Lions fans came to appreciate during his playing days.

“I think he's got a very quick, sort of 20 or 30-metre dash,” Laskie said.

“So yeah, I wouldn't want to be against him in a beep test.”

Carlton president Luke Sayers declared his coach a "true blue hero", writes the publication, saying: “It doesn't surprise me because he's that sort of fella.

“He would have done that instinctively."

It comes as Voss prepares for another finals series after fortunately claiming eighth spot after a dramatic Sunday.
