Carlton are being considered as the frontrunners for out-of-contract Giant Zac Williams, with the speedster yet to commit to GWS as the free agency window approaches, per afl.com.au.
The Blues will be major players in the 2020 trade window, but could look to secure the signature of Williams without giving up any trade stocks.
Williams is a restricted free agent, meaning the Giants can match whatever contract offer a rival can put on the table, but with the Giants already facing contract strains with Jeremy Cameron and Harry Perryman also in need of extensions, Williams could be the one to exit Western Sydney.
The 25-year-old is also in the sights of North Melbourne and Essendon, but it is understood the Blues are in the front seat for the GWS defender.
Williams would join former teammates in Matt Kennedy, Caleb Marchbank, Will Setterfield and Lachie Plowman at Ikon Park if the Blues can get the deal done.
While ongoing injuries have sidelined Williams along his career, there is no question the agile ball-winner has what it takes to lift the Blues into serious contenders.
The Blues have remained keen on gun Sydney forward Tom Papley as they prepare to add ready-made talent to complete their rebuild and look towards finals success.
