Both Carlton and Gold Coast have announced changes to their coaching staff with three faces - both familiar and new - on-board ahead of a huge off-season.

The Blues announced on Tuesday afternoon that former coach Tim Clarke will be returning to the club as a midfield coach along with Eagles premiership player Ashley Hansen, who will join as a senior assistant.

With Michael Voss taking the reins as Carlton coach in recent weeks many were anticipating who he would bring through the door to assist him with the huge task of elevating the club back to their former glory.

Clarke, who ironically left as Suns' assistant coach to take up this role, coached at Richmond in both a supporting and senior position with their AFL and VFL sides respectively.

The former Hawthorn midfielder then chose to join the Blues in 2015 before moving up to the Gold Coast to work under Stuart Dew.

Returning to a role that is very much familiar to him, Clarke explained how excited he was by the potential of the club and the ability of the playing group.

โ€œIn my discussions with the Club about coming back, what was really clear was the direction this group wants to go and the total buy-in that is there to achieve it,โ€ Clarke said to the club's website.

โ€œThat is an incredibly exciting environment to be a part of. I know first-hand, having worked with some of these players during the early stages of their career, what this list is capable of and I cannot wait to get stuck in and begin the hard work with them.โ€

Hansen joins the Blues after nine years at Whitten Oval and will take on the role as Carlton's forward line and offensive coach.

Clarke and Hansen are the newest coaching additions at Ikon Park since Voss' appointment, with former player Aaron Hamill also drafted in only weeks ago.

Things are looking up at the Blues for this year's trade period too, with the club already having secured two-way midfielder George Hewett from the Swans and working towards bringing in defender Lewis Young from the Doggies and Dockers gun Adam Cerra.

Meanwhile in Queensland, Stuart Dew has added former Demons and Tigers forward Brad Miller to his group of assistant coaches ahead of a make-or-break season 2022 for the Suns.

The 38-year-old played 157 games across both Melbourne and Richmond from 2002-2012, often used as a utility.

Miller previously was in a Director of Coaching role at Sydney University, however had moved there from Greater Western Sydney, where he was an assistant coach for six years.

Newly-appointed Gold Coast General Manager of Football Performance Wayne Campbell explained his delight at being able to secure Miller for 2022.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to be able to welcome Brad to the club, he possesses an impressive and diverse coaching background and will complement our current coaching group,โ€ Campbell said to the club's website.

โ€œWorking with [Stuart Dew], we identified the need to add to our coaching group ahead of next season to ensure we continue to provide our players with the best possible environment to develop and chase improvement on field.โ€

The Suns have failed to make the top eight for the entirety of their time at AFL level, with conjecture throughout the year that Dew's job was under threat until the club's top brass rubbished the rumours by pledging allegiance to the 42-year-old.

The Hawthorn premiership player has already secured Tigers ruck-forward Mabior Chol from Punt Road and will be looking to the draft, where the Suns hold Pick 3 among others, to strengthen even more.

2022 is seen as Dew's last chance to impress by many in the industry however with the backroom additions that he has made so far this off-season, he has certainly bolstered his support networks.
