Carlton have been urged to consider former Magpies coach Nathan Buckley as a potential successor to David Teague.
Teague, who is set to learn his fate at the Blues this week, could face the exit at Ikon Park after several poor performances and as the club takes in the findings of an external review into their football department.
With some believing Teague's time at Carlton is up, a number of names have been thrown into the ring as potential candidates for the Blues job.
Following the shock announcement of his premature departure from Hawthorn at season's end, Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson is believed to be a coveted candidate for the Blues.
CARLTON:ย Fears Blues defender's season is over
While the four-time premiership coach is likely to be in-demand by both Carlton and Collingwood, Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes believes Buckley would be a much better match for the Blues.
Speaking onย Footy Classified,ย Cornes suggested Buckley could thrive with Carlton's list given their current placing narrowly on the outer of a finals finish.
โThe obvious one for me is Nathan Buckley. Nathan Buckley is almost the better option than Alastair Clarkson. Heโs three or four months off, (heโs) refreshed,โ Cornes said.
โ(Buckleyโs) Defensively so strong โ we even saw that this year at Collingwood. He can implement that straight away and make them a four to five goal better team.

โCarlton have got more weapons than Buckley has ever worked with potentially with the key forwards that theyโve got that he hasnโt had. And heโs a really strong communicator, something that has been lacking under David Teague.โ
With Carlton's review finalised, the club are set to make a decision on Teague's tenure as early as this week, however a public announcement isn't set to be made until after the home and away season.
Along with Clarkson, a number of former senior coaches have been linked to potential returns to the coaching box, with either the Magpies or Blues.
Former Adelaide coach Don Pyke is believed to be the leading candidate for the Collingwood vacancy, while Michael Voss has been interviews for the role.
