Carlton veteran Ed Curnow will miss the coming weeks of action after suffering a hamstring strain in the VFL over the weekend.

The 32-year-old has not featured for the Blues' AFL side this season and has managed just the two appearances at VFL after suffering a a medial ligament injury to his knee in the pre-season.

After making his return to football two weeks ago against Port Melbourne, Curnow was placed on course for a potential AFL reprieve before succumbing to his latest setback.

The veteran midfielder sustained a hamstring complaint in the opening quarter of the Blues' 11-point win over Geelong in the VFL on Saturday, with scans since confirming a strain that will see him potentially return in the late stages of the season.

While opportunities in the senior side may remain scarce, Curnow could play a role in Carlton's reserves come the post-season as the Blues currently sit in fourth spot on the VFL ladder.

Meanwhile, luckles defender Caleb Marchbank will be in the selection frame for this weekend's bout with GWS, having overcome his latest knee injury, which was sustained in his AFL comeback earlier this season.

Marchbank returned from an ACL injury in Round 13 against Essendon after almost three years on the sidelines, however his return was hampered by further injury.

After recuperating in the past six weeks, the 25-year-old will now be available for Michael Voss's selection planning for Round 19.

Ibn their most recent injury update, Carlton have also noted that midfield-forward hybrid Jack Martin remains at least another week away with a calf issue, while young midfielder Jack Carroll will be assessed next week in being managed by the club.

Carlrton will host the Giants at Marvel Stadium on Sunday at 1:10pm (AEST), while their reserves will welcome GWS for their VFL fixture at Ikon Park the night prior.
