Essendon swingman Patrick Ambrose has announced his retirement from the game, per AFL.com.au.

Ambrose played 88 games for the Bombers after making his debut in 2014, with injuries plaguing his career.

The 29-year-old managed one game this season in a return to Essendon's senior side, coming in the Dreamtime clash against the Tigers.

That match was Ambrose's first since the 2019 season following a number of setbacks.

Utilised as both a forward and defender, Ambrose was a reliable swingman option for the Bombers across his eight seasons at the Hangar.

A great find for the Bombers, Ambrose was recruited to Essendon's AFL squad after an impressive run in their VFL side, being taken in the rookie draft.
