Western Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli has been listed as a test ahead of the Dogs' clash with St Kilda this Sunday afternoon.
Bontempelli sustained an ankle injury in his side's win over Melbourne on the weekend, and will be monitored during the week before the Dogs make a call on his availability on Friday.
“Marcus had his ankle caught in a tackle in the second quarter,” Bulldogs’ medical services manager Chris Bell told the club's website.
“This has caused Marcus to damage one of the ligaments in his ankle… We’ll work through a process with Marcus this week and make a decision on his availability after the main training session on Friday.
The Bulldogs could welcome back both Tom Liberatore and Caleb Daniel this weekend, with Liberatore the more likely of the two to take the field.
“Tom and Caleb have continued to train really well," Bell added.
“Tom will fully train this week, and we expect him to be available.
“Caleb completed a game-like rehab session during the weekend. He pulled up really well from the session and does have some boxes to tick for us this week, and we’ll make a decision on his availability towards the back-end of the week.”
The Dogs will be forced into at least one change, with Toby McLean ruled out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury.
One midfielder who won't be available is Mitch Wallis, who will now be out indefinitely as he prepares for surgery.
Wallis has played the past two weeks in the VFL after suffering an ankle injury in round 10, but will now fix the bone stress injury by going under the knife.
“Mitch continues to suffer some persistent symptoms from the bone stress fracture in the front of his ankle,” Bell said.
“We’ve tried to do everything we can for Mitch, to manage his injury without having to resort to surgery.
“Mitch will have to have surgery on the ankle, which will happen later this week.”
Wallis is now listed as out indefinitely.
