Delisted Geelong premiership forward Gary Rohan has revealed "the boots definitely aren't hung up yet" as he looks to continue his AFL career following his departure from the Cats.

Rohan was one of seven Geelong players cut by the club following their preliminary final exit, with fellow flag winner Brandan Parfitt and VFL best and fairest Mitch Hardie among those also not offered new contracts.

The decision from Geelong to part ways with Rohan came at the cessation of the 33-year-old's sixth season in the hoops, with the speedy half-forward's last game in Cats colours coming in a VFL final where he suffered a fractured skull.

The injury saw Rohan ruled out of Geelong's AFL preliminary final against Brisbane, which would see Chris Scott's side exit the September series and 2024 campaign.

Rohan's departure came as some surprise as the former Sydney forward played 12 games this year and was often required in Scott's best side, with the 204-gamer now the lookout for a new club.

Despite his age, Rohan is keen to continue his time in the top flight, deciding against calling time on his career after 15 years in the AFL.

"I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Geelong Cats for an incredible 6 years," Rohan wrote in a post to Instagram.

"It's been an honour and privilege to play for the team I grew up supporting. The experiences and memories I've gained will stay with me forever.

"The boots definitely aren't hung up yet (don't worry, my head is cherry ripe!) as I still have more to give to this game and hope that my AFL career continues, but I wouldn't trade my memories in the hoops for anything."

Phoenix Foster, Emerson Jeka, Oscar Murdoch and James Willis were other senior-listed Cats to be delisted this off-season, adding to the retirements of Tom Hawkins and Zach Tuphy to bring Geelong's tally of leaving players to nine for the year.

Rohan's position on the outer could be understood by Geelong's plans to sign former Carlton forward Jack Martin, who is expected to land at Kardinia Park as a delisted free agent.

The Blues could be among the clubs who weigh up a move for Rohan, with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs other sides that might look to add speed and experience to their front half.

The Cats are also likely to land Western Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith via this year's trade period, which opens on Monday.
