Retired Melbourne player Angus Brayshaw will remain with the Demons this season, taking on a part-time role that will include matchday commitments.
Brayshaw announced his retirement on the eve of the 2024 season following a lengthy battle with concussion, with his most recent head trauma episode coming in September that subsequently plagued his pre-season.
The premiership Demon will hand out the 'True Demon' award after each game this year, with the player who typifies the club's qualities to be given the helmet Brayshaw wore during his career.
Brayshaw will also take part in assisting senior coach Simon Goodwin on gameday, working between the coaching cohort and playing group, according to 7 News' Mitch Cleary.
"Angus Brayshaw is back at Melbourne," Cleary reported on Saturday.
"The retired star will have a role during the week, including awarding the 'True Demon' - the player that best lives up to the club values. The weekly winner gets Brayshaw's trademark helmet.
"He'll also have a matchday role on the bench as the conduit between the coaches and the players."
Brayshaw is expected to be paid out the remainder of his contract with the Demons, which was set to expire at the end of the 2028 season. However, the shape of the owed finances is yet to be confirmed.
After being medically retired, Brayshaw awaits an agreement in negotiations between Melbourne, the AFL and his management that could see the payout fall outside of the club's salary cap.
Brayshaw played 167 games in the red and blue after joining the club as the third overall pick in the 2014 National Draft.
The defender-midfielder played a starring role in the Demons' drought-breaking grand final win in 2021, booting a goal from 25 possessions.
