The 2020 AFL season has been suspended amid the coronavirus crisis.

The season will be on hold until at least May 31, while the AFLW season will conclude with no premier awarded.

It comes after Victoria and New South Wales announced they’ll be shutting down over the next 48 hours.

The Melbourne and West Coast clash at Optus Stadium on Sunday will be the last AFL game played before the hiatus.

Speaking to the media on Sunday afternoon, AFL chief Gillon McLachlan said the league faces an unprecedented financial crisis.

"The league is facing the biggest financial crisis in our history”, McLachlan said.

“To say this is the most serious crisis to hit our league in 100 years is an understatement.

“As a community and as a code, we all need to take the unprecedented and required actions to get through this together.”
