Essendon veteran Cale Hooker has announced his retirement from the game, ending a 219-game career with the Bombers.
Utilised at either end of the field, Hooker has been a reliable asset to the Bombers as both a key forward and defender.
An All-Australian backman in 2014 and Crichton medallist the following year, Hooker excelled for his club through some of their toughest years prior to missing the 2016 season due to the Bombers' supplements saga.
A constant leader in a young side, the Western Australian has been a fan favourite at the Hangar since joining via the 2007 draft at pick 54.
The 31-year-old stated his gratitude to have been able to represent the red sash throughout his career.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity the club has given me and I will leave the game at the end of the season knowing I left no stone unturned to give the club, my teammates and the fans everything I had,” Hooker said, via the club's announcement.
“To have been part of something bigger than myself, something that is so important to so many people, has been such a privilege and an honour. Representing this jumper is something I will never take for granted.

“I love this football club and I just want to thank all my teammates, coaches, staff, volunteers and all the members and supporters who have been with me throughout this journey.”
Hooker was added to the Bombers' list of life members four years ago.
