Melbourne midfielder Christian Salem has been offered a one-week suspension by the VFL's Match Review Panel.

Salem, who was dropped ahead of the Demons' clash with St Kilda on the weekend, was banned for striking Carlton listed Northern Blues player, Liam Sumner on Saturday at Casey Fields.

The 22-year-old was initially reported by the match day umpire for rough conduct, before the incident was upgraded to striking.

Salem was given a two match ban, downgraded to one match with an early guilty plea, given he has no applicable bad record.

He has played 15 senior games for the Demons this season, averaging 21.3 disposals.

Salem was one of the best on ground, collecting 28 disposals and laying nine tackles, as the Casey Demons won the match 16.6 (102) to 8.17 (65).
