Geelong captain Joel Selwood appears almost certain to take on the Tigers at the MCG in the qualifying final on Friday night.

Selwood got through a strong training session at Deakin Reserve on Saturday and told reporters he is on track to take his place in the side.

"I'm going well, that's all I can really say. I'll let it continue to go this way and I'm more likely than unlikely," Selwood said.

"We'll wait right up to the moment and we'll see how I'm feeling.

"As I said I expect to be named and we'll go from there."

The three-time premiership player trained away from the main group for much of the session, before taking part in match simulation for the final quarter of the team's scratch match.

Selwood suffered an ankle syndesmosis injury against Sydney in Round 20, before undergoing surgery on August 7.

If Selwood does play on Friday, it would be an extraordinary return just 32 days after surgery, for an injury usually needing a six to eight week recovery period.
