Geelong has suffered a huge blow as it attempts to secure a top four spot, with skipper Joel Selwood ruled out for the remainder of the home and away season.
Selwood, who injured his ankle during the Cats' 46-point loss to the Swans on Friday night, will undergo left ankle surgery on Monday after scans revealed a syndesmosis injury.
Despite the setback, Geelong is expecting Selwood to be fit to return for the finals series.
The Cats face Richmond at home, Collingwood at the MCG and Greater Western Sydney at home in the final three weeks of the season.
