GWS has confirmed veteran Steve Johnson will play on in 2017.
Johnson played 22 games in his first season with the Giants, kicking 43 goals.
“I really enjoyed my football with the Giants this season and feel that I still have plenty to offer as a player,” Johnson said.
“We are all obviously disappointed with how the season ended but there are plenty of positives to consider and room for improvement as we move into 2017.
“As was the case this time last year, I wouldn’t be committing to another season unless I didn’t think I could play at a high level and significantly contribute to the team.
“My body feels good and I’m excited about what the future holds for this group.”
Johnson won three premierships in a 253-game career at Geelong, before being cut by the Cats at the end of last season. He proved an integral part of the Giants' set up this season, but his ill-disciplined past resurfaced in the qualifying final win over Sydney, copping a one-week suspension for elbowing midfielder Josh Kennedy.
However, GWS General Manager Football Wayne Campbell said Johnson's form warranted another year.
“Steve put together a fantastic season this year and we’re delighted that he has re-committed for a further 12 months,” Campbell said.
“He brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to our playing group, both on and off the field, and he’ll no doubt continue to have a big impact on his team mates over the pre-season.
“Steve is the ultimate competitor and we think he has a lot to offer our playing group in 2017.”
