Blues midfielder Ed Curnow has been handed a one-match ban from the AFL Appeals Board for making intentional contact with an umpire and will miss his side's clash with Melbourne this Sunday.

Ed's younger brother, Charlie, had his case dismissed, meaning he will be free to take on the Demons this weekend.

The pair both touched an umpire during the Blues' win over Essendon, just one week after Cats forward Tom Hawkins copped a one-match ban for a similar incident. They were each handed $1000 fines by the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.

Ed will be free to return against the Cats in round 10.
