The 2025 AFL season presents another opportunity for some of the competition's lesser-known big men to enjoy breakout seasons.

It seems each year there's a fringe ruckman or two who make a name for themselves with stellar rises after earning first-string status come selection.

Tristan Xerri, Tom De Koning and Lloyd Meek enjoyed massive campaigns last year after taking the main spot, while GWS big man Kieren Briggs did the same the season prior.

With the emergence of more rucks, we've taken a look at which players could follow the same trajectory in 2025.

1. Jordon Sweet

After a 2024 season that started in the SANFL, Jordon Sweet is primed for a big 2025 as Port Adelaide's primary ruck option.

With another year of experience under his belt and a clearer run at the pre-season, Sweet has all the tools to establish himself as a dominant force in the competition.

Standing at 205cm, his size and strength make him a crucial presence around stoppages, and his ability to win hitouts gives Port Adelaide's midfielders first use of the ball.

Sweet's endurance and mobility also set him apart, allowing him to impact contests beyond just ruck work, whether it's around the ground or pushing forward to provide another marking target inside 50.

His 2024 average of 35 hitouts highlights his ability to control the ruck battle, and if he can stay fit, he could take his game to an elite level.

At 25 years old, he is entering his prime, and with Port Adelaide looking to push deep into finals, his role will be pivotal in steering the Power's midfield to success.
