Brisbane Lions X-factor forward Kai Lohmann has inked a fresh two-year contract extension that ties him to the reigning premiers until at least the closure of the 2027 season.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, booting 36 goals from a full 27-game campaign. This impressive output saw Lohmann sit only behind Charlie Cameron and Joe Daniher in the Lions end of year goalkicking charts.
Lohmann was also only one of four players to receive recognition in last year's Norm Smith Medal voting, with the livewire kicking four goals in a standout display.
The former Ballarat native has attracted significant interest from his home state in previous contract years with the likes of Essendon, Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs all tied to Lohmann at certain points of the 2023 campaign.
In a club statement, Brisbane's General Manager of Football Danny Daly expressed the club's delight in having Lohmann recommit for the coming years.
โKai has shown plenty of promise in his first three seasons with us and his finals campaign last year was very exciting to watch,โ Daly said.
โThere's no questioning his natural talent and flare. The challenge for Kai now is to keep working hard and keep building on last year and we are confident he will do so.
โOne of the first things Kai's coaches and teammates comment on is his eagerness to keep learning and to do whatever he can do to become the best player he can.
โWe as a club are very proud of not only the player Kai is developing into, but also the quality person he is which is a real credit to him and his family.โ
Lohmann himself spoke on his excitement and gratitude about moving forward with the Queensland club.
โIt feels amazing to be re-signing with the Lions and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to stay with such a great Club,โ Lohmann said.
โI had some great moments last year, but it wouldn't have been possible without the support around me both in and out of the club,โ
โThere is also a lot for the club to look forward to over the next few years, so I am really excited I will be here to see what we can achieve.โ
The Lions will have some big decisions to make throughout the year as frequent first-teamers Dayne Zorko, Lincoln McCarthy, Logan Morris, Ryan Lester, Callum Ah Chee, Brandon Starcevich, Darcy Gardiner, Conor McKenna, Darcy Fort and Deven Robertson all remain without a contract beyond 2025.
Brisbane's premiership defence begins with a preliminary final rematch against Geelong at the Gabba on March 6.
