A pair of Brisbane stars have signed new deals with the Lions, with free agent Jarrod Berry and small forward Charlie Cameron each extending their careers with the Queensland club.

Berry's signature loomed as the most vital still yet to be secured by the club heading into the second half of the 2024 season, with teammate Hugh McCluggage having inked a fresh seven-year extension last month.

Brisbane had also settled on new deals for Noah Answerth (2026), Keidean Coleman (2027), Bruce Reville (2025) and Brandon Starcevich (2025) already this year, meaning Berry - who had garnered reported interest from elsewhere - remained as the club's priority retention target.

The restricted free agent has signed a five-year contract extension with the Lions that will take him to the end of the 2029 season, according to 9 News' Tom Morris.

The new deal will see the midfielder turn his back on rival interests and extend his career to a total of 13 years with Brisbane.

“It is a pretty awesome moment, super proud of my journey so far and being able to stick with the one club is pretty special to me,” Berry said in a club statement.

“It was nice to see the club put their faith in me, and I'll be here for a little bit longer.

“The people, the friendships, and bonds I've formed over the eight years I have been here and the people outside of the club that support me have been tremendous.

“It was pretty easy for me to not want to leave, and I feel like I've built a life up here and it's been pretty good, so I am excited about the future.”

The signing also sees the number of restricted free agents further decrease, leaving Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield, Suns gun Ben Ainsworth, North Melbourne's Cameron Zurhaar and Bulldogs big man Tim English still unsigned and eligible under a restricted band.

The news doesn't stop there for Lions fans, however, with Cameron extending his contract beyond 2025.

Cameron added four years to his contract in 2020 to be signed with the Queensland side until the end of next year, with "a couple more years" now added to his deal.

The 29-year-old said he is loving life as a Lion and still has plenty to offer.

“It's an exciting time to stay on for a couple more years and finish my career off in Brisbane,” Cameron said.

“I didn't see myself leaving; I am enjoying my time here in Brisbane and I grew up here, went to school here, my partner is from here and I love the footy club and enjoy it here.

“I felt like I've built a lot of connections here at the club with staff, players and coaches - so it was an easy decision to stay here in Brisbane.

“It's always good to hear the fans sing Country Roads and they obviously played a big factor in my decision.

“The fans because are so enjoyable to be around with the care and support they show to me and the other players is awesome and I can't thank them enough.”

The extension will see Cameron further extend his 217-game career in the competition, with the dual All-Australian and four-time Lions leading goalkicker potentially in reaching distance of the 300-game milestone.

Cameron has played 144 games for Brisbane since returning to Queensland after four years with Adelaide, where he played 73 matches for a return of 87 goals.

The Lions are yet to settle on new deals for the likes of Ryan Lester, Jarryd Lyons, Dayne Zorko, Lincoln McCarthy and Darragh Joyce, among others, for 2025.
