Brisbane skipper Dayne Zorko will play on in 2023, with the club confirming the veteran has signed a fresh one-year deal with the side.
The 33-year-old enjoyed an uptick in form throughout 2022 in a more defensive role, averaging 19.9 disposals and 5.8 marks, as his side featured in yet another preliminary final.
A five-time winner of the Merrett-Murray Medal, Zorko was selected by Gold Coast as a Queensland zone selection in 2011 before being traded onto the Lions.
Zorko would go on to make his debut for the Lions in Round 7 in 2012 as a 23-year-old, and hasn't played in less than 16 games per season since. He would earn his only All-Australian blazer in 2017 after averaging 25.1 disposals, 1.6 goals and seven tackles per game.
Zorko, who will be 34 next year, will be hoping his side can achieve premiership success in 2023, with his star-studded side falling short in recent years.
In a statement released through club media, Zorko said he was excited to be staying at the Lions for another year.
“The Club has been building towards something really exciting the past few seasons and with that looking to continue next year, I really wanted to be a part of it,” Zorko said.
“Even though I am not getting any younger, I have been really enjoying my football as we have such a great group of players and people at the Club.
“I am extremely thankful for the Brisbane Lions to back me to go around again, and I look forward to joining the boys in making the Club and all of our fans proud in 2023.”
