Brisbane's VFL side are facing a preliminary final, and potentially a grand final, without experienced veteran Daniel Lloyd, who has been offered a three-game suspension by the league's Match Review Panel for forceful front-on contact.

The incident in question occurred during the fourth quarter of Saturday's semi-final win over Williamstown, with Lloyd collecting Seagulls players Harrison Minton-Connell,

The 32-year-old's actions have been graded as careless conduct, high impact and high contact, resulting in a three-game ban.

That penalty can be reduced to two matches with an early plea, however an accepted sanction would rule Lloyd out of this week's meeting with Werribee and a potential spot in next week's VFL Grand Final.

The Lions and Lloyd, who retired after 101 games with GWS last year, can choose to challenge the charge at the VFL Tribunal later this week, with a preliminary final against the minor premiers scheduled for Saturday morning.

Lloyd, who was playing his third VFL game for the Lions at Springfield over the weekend, was a key piece in the club keeping its season alive, recording 23 disposals, seven marks and a goal as a forward-half threat.

The AFL club's development coach returned to the state league for the clash against the Seagulls, joining fellow top flight experienced players Darragh Joyce and Will Martyn in coming into Ben Hudson's side.

Joyce could also be taken out of the Lions' lineup for this week's game against Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval as Brisbane's senior side potentially need to replace key defender Jack Payne, who hurt his knee in Saturday's elimination final win over Carlton.

The Lions could have James Tunstill back for their upcoming VFL final, with the 21-year-old needing to exit concussion protocols in time for the preliminary final.

Jack Manly was also placed in concussion protocols following the Lions' loss to Footscray in week one of the finals series and could also be in the mix to return against Werribee.
