Brisbane forward Kai Lohmann is adamant that the club will be able to turn around its goal-kicking woes when it faces Carlton in the elimination final at the Gabba.

In five of their past six clashes, the Lions have kicked more behinds than goals, with their inaccuracy costing them eight premiership points in losses to GWS (8.16) and Collingwood (11.12).

In both of those games, Brisbane coughed up handy leads and missed crucial opportunities that would have likely seen the club secure a home qualifying final if results went their way.

However, the "laid-back" Lohmann says the side and forwards, in particular, don't "dwell" on the past as much but admit that it is something they need to fix.

โ€œWe're just trying to forget about it and really nail in and do the extras to try to fix it as quickly as we can,โ€ Lohmann said.

โ€œI think just we keep doing what we're doing โ€“ get (the ball) in (to the forward line) and then hopefully just try and put it through the big sticks.

โ€œMidfielders and defenders give us as many opportunities as we can, and hopefully, us forwards can put them through.

โ€œI'm a pretty laid-back guy, so I don't like to think too much, but I'll do my actions this week and kick as many goals I can (at training) and try to get as much confidence as I can and try to help the other boys as well.โ€

Across 2024, the Lions rank second (only to the Western Bulldogs) in generating inside 50s, recording an average of 57 per game.

Chris Fagan's men then turn that number into 28.3 shots on goal every weekend, sitting third behind the Bulldogs and Port Adelaide.

However, Brisbane ranks 15th for goal accuracy, converting those 28.3 shots at the big sticks at a rate of 46.6 per cent.

It comes as the ever-efficient Lions have failed to put teams away in 2024, and the numbers of their prime movers reflect that.

Lions 2024 goalkickers

Player Shots at Goal Goals Accuracy
Joe Daniher 112 50 44.6
Eric Hipwood 60 30 50
Charlie Cameron 79 37 46.8
Cam Rayner 49 25 51
Zac Bailey 32 18 56.3
Kai Lohmann 59 27 45.8

In 2023, all but Cam Rayner were comfortably above 50 per cent, whilst the injured Lincoln McCarthy was the dead-eye, kicking 28 goals at a rate of 62.2 per cent.

The Lions come up against a Carlton outfit, who, throughout the year, have made the most of their opportunities through Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Matt Owies.

The Blues sit third for goal accuracy (53.5) from 25.7 shots on goal per game.

Carlton will also come into the elimination final with confidence, having beaten Brisbane at the Gabba in Opening Round.

Curnow and McKay could be two of six inclusions, while the Lions are likely to get back Jack Payne and Brandon Starcevich to help combat their strong forward line.

Bruce Reville will also be in the mix but will need to prove his fitness across the next two weeks.
