Brodie Grundy is all but set to make a move to Melbourne this trade period, per SEN's Sam Edmund, with something "extraordinary" seemingly the only thing standing in the way of a deal being done.
Grundy managed just six games for the Pies this season as he dealt with ongoing injuries, finding his spot in the Collingwood side placed more precariously as time went on.
Speaking on SEN’s Crunch Time, Edmund said he believed the two-time All Australian will be a Demon in 2023, with Collingwood paying part of his salary.
“This will happen to Melbourne,” Edmund said.
“It’d take something extraordinary for it not to, all the pieces are in place.
“There won’t be an announcement or a nomination from Grundy, he doesn’t have to do that.
“But the trade will happen and there’ll be a sizable contribution from the Collingwood end, he has five years left at a million dollars a season.”
While a move across town to the Demons is looking likely for Grundy, Edmund reports that the move is not one that was planned by the 28-year-old.
“If Adam Treloar was 10 out of 10 on the anger scale with his departure, this isn’t that far behind from my understanding,” Edmund said.
“Brodie Grundy has never been scared to speak his mind and I just wonder when it’s all said and done if he’ll express dissatisfaction with how it’s all played out.
“At the end of the day, he wanted to stay at Collingwood.
“I hope he’ll paint a picture for us when he does get to Melbourne on the other side.”
Grundy has played all 177 matches of his career at Collingwood after making his debut in 2013. Originally drafted with pick 18 in the 2012 national draft, Grundy has since gone on to claim numerous accolades, including two club best and fairest awards in 2018 and 2019.
