Melbourne midfielder James Harmes is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines after suffering a broken wrist, per SEN's Sam Edmund.

Harmes has since undergone surgery and is set to miss the next six weeks of action after sustaining the injury in the Demons' Round 1 clash against Fremantle.

Despite playing out the match, scans on Monday had shown a scaphold fracture in Harmes' wrist.

The 25-year-old joins star recruit Ben Brown and young forward Sam Weideman in the casualty ward, with the attacking duo still sidelined for the next month.

Jack Viney and Michael Hibberd will be looking to overcome foot and ankle injuries respectively in hope of facing St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
