Buckley wants to get to the bottom of the Pies’ injury woes

Collingwood has had a solid start to the year, with a 4-4 record at the conclusion of round eight, and being within touch of the top eight.

However, injuries are becoming a major concern, so much so it is worrying coach Nathan Buckley.

Darcy Moore is the major culprit with this problem, injuring his hamstring for four weeks, and returned last week to only re-injure that hamstring once again in Sunday's 21-point defeat to the Cats.

Moore wasn't the only one to re-injure his hamstring, with star-forward Jamie Elliott also doing his hamstring in his return in the VFL only hours prior to Moore's case.

"Every team has injuries. We've had a few recurrences. Clearly Jamie today and Darcy today are issues for us. Rest assured we're not sweeping them under the carpet. We've got to find the answer to it. We want access to our best players more often," coach Nathan Buckley told AFL.com.au.

Taylor Adams, Jordan De Goey and Josh Smith are others who have had the same reoccurrences happen in 2018.

"We need to keep providing the best opportunity for players, we need to keep getting rehab right so we can get players back, and fit, and standing up to the competition."

The Pies finished with just two players on the bench in Sunday's game, with Phillips clashing with teammate Chris Mayne's leg in the third quarter, and suffering concussion.

Both Elliott and Moore will both have scans to determine the severity of the strains, most likely ruling them out of action prior to the bye week.

The Magpies face St. Kilda at Etihad Stadium this week, and will be looking to see the return of their captain, Scott Pendlebury, who was a late withdrawal prior to the clash against Geelong.
