In what shapes as their most important off-season in Luke Beveridge's tenure, the Western Bulldogs have begun their off-load of staff, with Travis Varcoe departing the club after three years.
Varcoe was a prominent figure of the club's VFL program and an important mentor for Indigenous players Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Arthur Jones during his time with the Dogs.
He joined the Bulldogs in 2021 as a development coach after an illustrious playing career with two of Victoria's biggest clubs, Geelong and Collingwood, winning two flags along the journey.
SEN's Tom Morris revealed on Monday that Varcoe is the latest set to deoart the Kennel. His vacancy creates a third coaching spot to be filled with the recent departure of Marc Webb, who returned to Western Australia, and Rohan Smith who, despite the backing of Beveridge, was asked to leave the club just over a month ago.
The Dogs released a statement on Monday afternoon confirming earlier reports, stating that Varcoe is a "quality person who has made a big impact" during his time at the club.
The club have assured the job security of Beveridge and appear to be sticking fat with midfield coach Brendon Lade and forward coach Matt Spangher, despite the groundbreaking change expected to take place.
After his sacking from Gold Coast, Stuart Dew was rumoured to be picked up at the Whitten Oval as an assistant. As reported by Morris, however, that seems to be nothing more than a rumour.
We may have to wait until early October for any drastic change, when the Bulldogs' best & fairest night takes place.
