Out-of-contract midfielder Ed Richards is expected to sign a long-term contract extension at the Bulldogs as lengthy as six years.
The half-back turned midfielder's sudden emergence as a premier ball-winning player in the competition has seen his worth skyrocket since he found form in 2024, and has had an even greater beginning to 2025, averaging 26 disposals, approximately five more per game than his 2024 average.
His value to a depleted Bulldogs side has been evident, and he is now set to sign a long-term deal to stay in red, white, and blue.
On AFL.com.au's Gettable, journalist Callum Twomey said that Richards' recommitment to the Bulldogs is gaining momentum.
"Ed Richards is firming to be one of the next free agents to take his name off the free agents list and be one of the next big name re-signings in the competition," Twomey said.
"Richards and the Western Bulldogs are in talks on a new long-term deal. Richards wants to stay, other clubs know that as well.
"I think there is some momentum behind him being one of the next big free agents to commit.
"Given his age and ability and quality, the expectation is that would be a five or six-year extension."
Richards' re-signing could add more reason for Bulldogs' skipper Marcus Bontempelli, to also recommit, who is another Bulldog out-of-contract at season's end.
Bontempelli is widely expected to stay but has yet to engage in contract talks.
The gun midfielder historically has signed his deals later in the season, taking a greater focus on field.
The Bulldogs face Fremantle on Sunday in what will be a high-stakes battle for both clubs aiming to tally second-consecutive wins in Round 4.
