Bulldogs VFL star Anthony Scott has been promoted to the club's AFL list following an impressive performance in the club's pre-season hitout against Hawthorn on Wednesday.

Despite the Hawks coming out on top in a 97-82 win, Scott was a standout for the Dogs and has been handed a rookie spot under Luke Beveridge via the Supplemental Selection Period, per AFL.com.au

The retirement of forward Sam Lloyd late last year opened up a list spot at the kennel for the 2021 season, with Scott reaping the rewards for his efforts after training at Whitten Oval this pre-season.

The former Footscray and Richmond VFL forward edges out fellow train-on players Corey Preston and Ewan Macpherson for the call-up.

The Bulldogs can still open another list spot should they move Toby McLean to the long-term injury list, with the 25-year-old still recovering from an ACL injury.

Scott, a best and fairest winner for Footscray in 2019, is in contention for Round 1 selection, with new Bulldogs recruit Mitch Hannan currently battling a groin complaint.

Bulldogs forwards Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Josh Schache, Cody Weightman and Ben Cavarra were all selected for the club's reserves match on Wednesday, handing Scott a prime opportunity to shine.

AFL clubs have until March 9 to sign players via the SSP, or can opt for the Mid-Season Rookie Draft on June 2.
