Carlton announced VFL assistant Mathew Buck will be taking over as the Blues' AFLW senior coach, replacing the departed Daniel Harford.
Buck enters the role after spending three seasons at Ikon Park since joining the Carlton VFL squad as an assistant coach in 2021.
Carlton underwent a six-week process before finalising a decision to make the former primary school educator the senior coach of the Blues Women's program.
With three years of head-coaching experience at South Warrnambool in the Hampden Football Netball League and a year as Development Coach at VFL side Werribee also in his resume, Buck has a strong coaching pedigree.
The AFLW head coach is set to take the role on a full-time basis, with the decision made as part of the club's extensive AFLW review.
“It is an honour to be named the AFLW Senior Coach of this great club: the responsibility to help lead our AFLW program is one I'm privileged to have and I cannot wait to get to work,” Buck said in a club statement.
“To represent such a massive club, backed by the most passionate supporter base in the country, gives you all motivation you need to do everything possible to build this program the right way, in our pursuit of long-term success.
“Having worked closely with the playing group over the last few months, I've seen first-hand just how much they want to bring success to Carlton.
“Throughout the interview process it has been terrific to see the level of investment the Club is placing in taking its AFLW program to the next level. That fills you with great confidence, especially in the environment that is being created. That is a great platform for us to launch from, so it's time to get to work and build this together."
Buck replaces the aforementioned Harford, who left the position after Carlton's finished their review.
The Blues failed to make finals over the past three seasons, including a two-win showing last year.
