Carlton have confirmed the double signing of Irish pair Rob Monahan and Matt Duffy for the 2024 season.

The Blues recently ventured abroad to the Emerald Isle, with the overseas trip a successful one as the club returns to Princes Park with two of the nation's most exciting Gaelic footballers deciding to join them in the return down under.

On Friday morning Carlton unveiled both Monahan and Duffy as two new rookie signings, with the pair joining the club as category B acquisitions.

“We are so excited to have Robert and Matt join the Blues next season. Both players are fantastic athletes and exceptional characters," Carlton list manager Nick Austin said via a club statement.

“Both will add depth to our midfield group, with Robert having the ability to play forward.

“While both have the skills to thrive in the AFL, we will invest heavily in their development whilst also supporting them in their transition to Australia.

“Their talent is really clear and we're confident with our development pathway being really well established at the Club under Luke Power, we will provide Robert and Matt with all the support they need to thrive at IKON Park.”

Duffy, 19, hails from Longford and is known for his speed and running abilities, while Kerry's Monahan has built an impressive career in a short period of time across multiple sports.

The teenager has excelled in hurling and rugby as well as Gaelic football. Monahan stands 189cm tall and can offer a wide range of traits in the attacking third of the field.

The double signing adds to Carlton's ongoing Irish experiment, having signed the likes of Zach Tuohy, Setanta O'hAilpin, Ciarán Sheehan and Ciarán Byrne to overseas contracts over the years.
