Small forward Lachie Fogarty has signed a two-year contract extension with Carlton which sees him remain at the Blues till at least 2026.

The 25-year-old arrived at Carlton in the 2020 trade period after a short stint at Geelong, where he was drafted at Pick 22 in 2017 and debuted in 2018. Fogarty played 23 games for the Cats.

Fogarty has had a great start to the 2024 season, where he was ranked number 1 in the competition for tackles inside 50 for the first four games, helping him earn this contract extension. The balanced forward however has missed miss six games this season due to a fractured wrist but returned in Round 11.

During 2021 and 2022, the youngster suffered setbacks from injuries but since returning in Round 14 last year, the small forward has been back as his best.

Fogarty is known for his pressure in the forward line and for being a reliable, clean ball-winning attacker. His forward craft is a huge asset to the Blues' forward line and the 25-year-old has earned a permanent spot in Carlton's best 23.

The forward has played 61 AFL games and brought up his 50th last year in Round 21. Fogarty could play his 100th AFL game with the Blues with his two-year contract extension.

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said the club is very excited to keep Fogarty at the club for a further two seasons.

“Lachie plays a key role in our forward structure, he adds so much to our brand of contest and pressure,” Austin said.

“Internally he is often praised for his selfless approach to the game, always striving to enhance his fellow teammates and it is pleasing to see Lachie start to get the recognition externally that he gets from everyone at the football club.

“We can't wait to see what he can produce in the Navy Blue over the next two years and still believe his best football is well and truly ahead of him.”

The Blues have a big clash this weekend when they take on Essendon on Sunday night at the MCG.
