Carlton were forced into an early sub change after recruit Elijah Hollands was left in pain from a heavy tackle in the third term against Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.

A crunching knock from Dockers tall Josh Treacy floored Hollands as he looked to kick the ball, with the midfielder visibly in pain and slow to get to his feet.

Hollands hobbled off the field in the hands of the trains, carrying a limp while holding his hip/groin before heading straight down into the rooms.

The Blues quickly pulled the trigger on their tactical sub change, with small forward Matt Owies brought into the game midway through the third term as Hollands dealt with an adductor issue.

Blues coach Michael Voss confirmed Hollands will undergo scans on the suspected hip/adductor injury.

Saturday's game was Hollands' second in the navy blue since moving south from the Gold Coast over the off-season. The outside midfielder served a two-game suspension to start the season after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine last year.

The brother of young Carlton wingman Ollie, Hollands came straight into Michael Voss' side for their Round 3 win over North Melbourne and would impress with 22 disposals and a goal.

Hollands collected eight touches against Fremantle before being subbed out of the match.

Teammate Zac Williams also didn't see out the contest after hurting his leg, however Voss played down any concern surrounding the defender.

Voss also confirmed star midfielder Sam Walsh has "tracked well" over the weekend and will be fit for the Blues' Round 5 clash with Adelaide should he get through next week's training unscathed.
