Carlton Blues skipper Patrick Cripps has provided an update on the condition of Jack Silvagni after he missed the entirety of last season with an ACL injury.
Able to play as a swinging key forward, defender and ruck, Silvagni was greatly missed last season and will be looking to press his case for selection next season as he continues to try and cement a regular spot in the team.
Debuting in 2016, the 115-game player has failed to be a regular in the starting team. This saw him miss out on being selected in all three of the finals matches the previous season in 2023.
Having ruptured his ACL, Silvagni is now on the comeback trail and has slowly integrated back into the team's training sessions - a full recovery is expected by January 2025.
โHe (Silvagni) is doing well, he's still in the rehab group but he's starting to integrate back into training. He looks fit and has high energy,โ Cripps toldย SEN Breakfast.
โA lot of the guys came back in really good condition which you always hope is the case, you try to set a high standard as a leader to make sure the boys have done the work.
โBut the rehab group's pretty small at the moment, which is good. We've got a lot of guys attacking their training as we head up to Queensland next week for a four-day camp.
โDecember's a month where you get the work, but January's the month where you really crank it up.
โSo, a lot of these guys in the rehab group will be back in January and then you probably got a four-to-six-week block to get yourself fine-tuned to the practice matches.โ
Carlton will open up their 2025 AFL season against the Richmond Tigers on Thursday, March 13, at the MCG.
