The absence of leader Isaac Heeney and quieter weeks for Nick Daicos and Zach Merrett have seen Carlton captain Patrick Cripps take the lead in our 2024 MVP race.

Despite Saturday's loss to the Western Bulldogs, Cripps managed to poll 15 votes to move past both Heeney and Daicos into first overall, with the Blues onballer now holding a nine-vote lead.

Heeney, who missed Round 18 through suspension, has handed over the lead for the second time in three weeks, while Daicos couldn't take back an advantage due to his side's loss to Geelong on Friday night.

Merrett too failed to poll, meaning he now sits 23 votes from Cripps and just four ahead of the fifth-running Marcus Bontempelli, who polled four votes in his side's win over the Blues.

Brisbane co-captain Lachie Neale has continued his meteoric rise, moving from eighth to sixth on our leaderboard thanks to a perfect 20-vote game against West Coast that has him in breathing room of Bontempelli.

Gold Coast's Noah Anderson also polled 20 votes and has returned to the top 10 with 134 votes for the season, while Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was the only other player to amass a perfect performance over the weekend.

Geelong's Gryan Miers came a vote shy of joining Neale, Anderson and Ugle-Hagan, while Swan Errol Gulden, who has moved to eighth overall, and GWS skipper Toby Greene each managed 18 votes.

Melbourne skipper Max Gawn has dropped to ninth due to being sidelined with an ankle injury, while Port Adelaide ace Zak Butters added eight votes to sit in seventh after Round 18.
