Carlton Blues have confirmed that utility Alex Cincotta will undergo surgery next week after he has been unable to train recently due to a hip issue.
Picked up in the 2023 pre-season supplemental selection period, Cincotta is set to miss the next four to five months with the injury. However, he is aiming to be available to play early next season.
Known for his selfless attitude, defensive ability and speed out of defence, Cincotta also adds real versatility for the Blues as he has shown he can play any position required of him, recently having spells in the middle of the ground and in defence.
The 27-year-old made 16 showings this year, averaging 2.8 tackles, 9.9 disposals and 1.6 marks per game.
The Blues have also provided an injury update on Charlie Curnow, Blake Acres (back), Corey Durdin (shoulder), Matthew Cottrell (shoulder), Jack Silvagni (knee) and Matt Duffy (knee).
All six players who are currently in the club's rehab group are all on track to be integrated into training in January after the Christmas break and will all be available for selection for the opening clash against the Richmond Tigers.
However, Curnow will undergo a minor procedure on his knee.
"Curnow will remain in Melbourne next week during the Club's pre-season camp on the Sunshine Coast, after confirmation a small clean-up of his knee would be required," a statement read.
"The Club has made the proactive decision to complete the minor procedure early next week, to ensure Curnow's availability for the start of the season will not be impacted."
