Carlton's bombshell pick swap with Hawthorn on Friday has opened the door to many possibilities after landing Pick 14 in the exchange.

The Blues have been adamant about acquiring two first-round selections in this year's draft, which was initially linked to a play for Port Adelaide star Dan Houston.

However, it is understood that list manager Nick Austin is also weighing up a move up the order, utilising selections 12 and 14 to get into the single digits.

It was reported that the Blues are making a play for West Coast's Pick 3 to help land star prospects Sam Lalor, Harvey Langford, Sid Draper and Finn O'Sullivan, with the latter holding a family tie to Carlton midfielder Sam Walsh.

Austin has declared the club's desire to land a future star in next month's National Draft and could use both selections if a deal cannot be struck.

However, a pick swap with North Melbourne or the Eagles could be of value to the rebuilding clubs, with a focus on bringing in more high-end talent with multiple selections.

AFL Media reported Carlton already made a play for West Coast's Pick 3 by offering its Pick 12, a future first-rounder and future second rounder before making the trade with Hawthorn.

Austin and his team could also turn their attention to luring Houston from the Power.

It is understood that Port Adelaide wants a first-round selection in this year's draft and would be central to a deal for the two-time All-Australian.

Carlton will also need to be conscious of matching any bids for father-son duo Ben and Lucas Camporeale, who have yet to officially nominate the club as their preferred destination.

The Blues currently hold picks 12, 14, 69, 72 and 73.

Reports from Ryan Daniels of The West Australian indicate the West Coast Eagles have rejected Carlton's offer to secure Pick 3, the club instead opting to utilise alternate options for deals involving Tom Barrass and Liam Baker.
