The Suns are set to throw axed Carlton forward a career lifeline this off-season, planning to recruit the veteran spearhead via the upcoming AFL Rookie Draft.

Casboult was not offered a new contract at Ikon Park for the 2022 season, with Gold Coast and Brisbane understood to be showing preliminary interest in the 31-year-old.

The Suns will need to have Casboult on board for the move ahead of the Rookie Draft on November 26, while also hoping no rival club looks to secure his services during the delisted free agency period.

Clubs will have between November 3 to November 9 to recruit delisted players prior to the first list lodgement on November 10.

A second delisted free agency window will then open on the following day, extending to November 15 before its expiry.

According to Fox Footy's Tom Morris, the Suns are hoping Casboult is open to moving to Queensland to keep his career alive, with doubt placed on another suitor emerging in the stakes.

Casboult recently stated he has "plenty to offer" at AFL level, telling SEN he remains optimistic on his future.

The Tasmanian native played 154 games in the navy blue since making his debut in 2012, booting 156 goals during his tenure at Princes Park.

The Lions had reportedly shown interest in Casboult following his culling from Carlton, however bolstered their tall stocks in the trade window, acquiring Darcy Fort from Geelong.

The Suns were also able to add height in the exchange window, signing free agent Mabior Chol from Richmond.
