Geelong forward Lincoln McCarthy has informed the Cats of his wishes to play at Brisbane next season.

McCarthy has struggled to break into Geelong's side and find a permanent position inside their forward line, although he did play 19 of his 29 games in 2016.

Having only played five matches over the past two seasons, the 24-year-old will look to the Lions for greater opportunity.

Geelong released the following statement on Friday night confirming his request.

Lincoln McCarthy met with the club today and advised that he would like to continue his career with the Brisbane Lions. As such the club will meet with the Lions during trade period to explore a trade that is acceptable to both parties.

McCarthy debuted with Geelong in 2012. He has kicked 25 goals in his 29 games in the navy and white hoops.
