Geelong remains hopeful that veteran ruckmen Rhys Stanley and Jonathon Ceglar will be available for the club's all-important clash against St Kilda on Saturday night.
At present, head coach Chris Scott will enter the September-shaping fixture without a noted big man at stoppages.
Yet, as stated by Cats footy boss Simon Lloyd on Tuesday evening, the veteran duo are racing the clock to fill the void.
“Rhys had a groin/adductor injury, and we'll assess that and see how he travels on Wednesday at main training and make a decision then,” Lloyd told Cats Media.
“‘Cegs has been battling a lower back issue for a period of time, and he's tried to work through every avenue to get himself up to play. We'll see how he travels tomorrow, and hopefully, he gets through.”
Young ruckman Toby Conway is also in the selection frame after working through the affects of a rolled ankle throughout the course of the past week.
Fellow tall Tom Hawkins also remains a touch-and-go prospect to run out on Saturday night, with a call on the five-time All-Australian to be made closer to the weekend.
“Tom Hawkins has been running, he'll train fully on Wednesday, and we'll need to work through his availability for selection later this week,” Lloyd added.
In further good news, dual Carji Greeves medallist Cameron Guthrie is set to see action for the first time since Round 6 after being laid low following surgery on a toe injury.
“(He'll return to) some type of football – that's something to be determined over the next couple of days, and Cam Guthrie is available to play (this weekend),” Lloyd said of the midfielder.
“He's super excited, and has been running really well, hitting all his metrics, so can't wait to see the number 29 running around this weekend."
Scott's charges will face Ross Lyon's Saints at Marvel Stadium at 7:25pm (AEST) with the club's VFL outfit locking horns with GWS earlier in the day at GMHBA Stadium.
