Geelong GM of Football Simon Lloyd has spoken out on the current state of troubled recruit Jack Steven.

The 30-year old was hospitalised on Saturday night after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest.

Steven is currently recovering from the non-life threatening wound at the Alfred Hospital.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Lloyd confirmed Steven suffered the injury under the right thoracis in his chest and that no further surgery would be required.

โ€œItโ€™s being investigated by the police at the moment so weโ€™ve got to be very careful not to speculate and make assumptions. Weโ€™ll allow the police to do all their investigations and at the moment the focus is on health and support for Jack,โ€ Lloyd said.

โ€œOur medical team have spoken to the trauma doctors at the Alfred (Hospital). Where he received the injury was under the right thoracis in his chest. Jackโ€™s very lucky as we speak.

โ€œHe is recovering, he doesnโ€™t require any further operations, doesnโ€™t need any exploratory surgery, so thatโ€™s a real positive in what is not a great circumstance.โ€

Lloyd added that Steven's return to the field is not a priority at this point.

โ€œThatโ€™s the best-case scenario (integrated back into training) but weโ€™re not even thinking about this at this present point in time,โ€ Lloyd said.

โ€œSince he (Steven) has arrived at the Geelong Football Club he hasnโ€™t missed a beat, heโ€™s training really well and has been in great spirits.

โ€œWe need to give him the space that he needs during this point in time and hopefully he does have a quick recovery and weโ€™ll assess where we go from there.โ€
