Three-time premiership Hawk and former North Melbourne defender Josh Gibson is heading back to the Kangaroos in a part-time coaching role under his old mentor Alastair Clarkson.
Gibson was an integral part of Clarkson's dominant run at Hawthorn through the past decade, with the now 38-year-old winning two best and fairest awards in premiership-winning seasons with the brown and gold.
Gibson featured in all three grand final wins from 2013-2015 and would play 160 matches for the Hawks after joining from North Melbourne at the end of the 2009 season.
The 2015 All-Australian is now set to link up with Clarkson and a host of familiar faces at Arden Street for 2023, with Gibson appointed to the Roos' coaching cohort.
The role Gibson will undertake will be on a part-time basis, working with the club's defenders and assisting line coach John Blakey next year.
The Roos' rearguard is sure to gain plenty of attention in 2023, with new signing Griffin Logue looking to extend his stellar 2022 form into the new year with his second club.
The former Docker will work alongside key backman Ben McKay as the focal points of Clarkson's defence, with the champion coach also needing to extend the contract of McKay as he enters the final campaign of his contract.
Gibson's move will also mean he'll work alongside former Hawthorn assistants Brett Ratten and Damian Monkhorst, who both ventured to North Melbourne this off-season after leaving the Saint and Hawks this year.
Gibson's former teammates Liam Shiels and Daniel Howe have also moved to the Roos to work under Clarkson, signing rookie deals for the 2023 season after departing the Hawks.
