Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson admits new recruit Ty Vickery is still part of his plans moving forward, despite selecting rookie Jack Fitzpatrick in his place this weekend.

Vickery, who hasn't played for the senior side since round three, has been doing his bit for Box Hill in the VFL, although Clarkson said Fitzpatrick's form was just too good to overlook.

โ€œHe was really close to coming in this week, to be fair," Clarkson said of Vickery mid-week.

โ€œHeโ€™s kicked goals at VFL level and he has averaged three a week for the last three games, he has acquitted himself well.

โ€œBut on this occasion โ€˜Fitzyโ€™ had put together six or seven great games of footy that meant we had to reward the better player of the bigger fellows in the last few weeks.

โ€œTy is playing well and he will get his chance at some point in time, Iโ€™m sure. Itโ€™s not that he is doing anything particularly wrong, itโ€™s just that Fitzy deserves his chance on form.โ€

Fitzpatrick played the final match of the home and away season last year for the Hawks as well as their two finals, before being delisted then picked up and rookie listed during the off-season.
