Collingwood will be without free agent recruit Dan McStay for at least six weeks after scans confirmed a ruptured flexor tendon in his finger.

The injury was sustained in Sunday's six-point win over St Kilda in Adelaide, with McStay subbed out of the contest in the opening half due to the ailment.

The former Lions forward has since undergone surgery on the finger injury, with the club confirming on Wednesday night that McStay will require at least six weeks away from ball work at training, meaning a likely return to the field will come in the following weeks.

McStay will be able to return to running and gym workouts in the near future however.

Defender Nathan Murphy was another Magpie to have his evening against the Saints end early, with the backman suffering a concussion from an incident involving St Kilda forward Anthony Caminiti.

Caminiti has since been handed a three-game suspension for making high contact on Murphy, with the Magpies defender also set for a stint on the sidelines under the AFL's concussion protocols.

Murphy will miss Tuesday's clash with Essendon due to the head trauma and will be monitored ahead of the club's Round 7 clash with Adelaide.

Star midfielder Jordan De Goey remains away from the club following a bout of gastro, with the 27-year-old training away from the playing group as he continues to battle lingering symptoms and effects of the illness.

De Goey was a late withdrawal for Collingwood's Gather Round clash and is hopeful of linking up with the playing group later this week.

Meanwhile, first-year defender Jakob Ryan is no certainty to play at either AFL or VFL level this week due to a neck/shoulder setback. The club is currently investigating the issue and will make a call on Ryan's selection status later this week.

Ryan would've been seen as a potential replacement for Murphy in Craig McRae's defence for Anzac Day.

Fellow 2022 National Draft recruit Joe Richards will be sidelined for the coming weeks after sustaining a medium-grade hamstring strain in the VFL on Sunday. Richards will miss up to six weeks with the setback.

Young ruckman Aiden Begg is nearing a return to play after battling a back injury to start the season. The third-string tall will require another fortnight of training before being made available to play.

Begg could be in contention for a recall to the AFL side once available given Collingwood's depleted ruck stocks, with Darcy Cameron (knee) and Mason Cox (spleen) both sidelined for the coming rounds.
