Collingwood must free up cap space to sign Tom Lynch

The Pies would require a list shake-up in order to accommodate free agent Tom Lynch’s contract if he were to sign with them.

Collingwood's reported interest in Gold Coast star forward Tom Lynch could prove difficult due to salary cap limitations and if their pursuit is serious, they will have to let multiple players walk.

Lynch will return to action for Gold Coast this week after spending some time with his family in Melbourne, however he and his manager Robbie D'Orazio made it clear that he was not meeting with any Victorian clubs during his time down south.

Collingwood hopped into the mix alongside Richmond and Hawthorn as the powerhouse Victorian clubs showing particularly high interest in the restricted free agent, but their chances look slim unless they are able to pull off the required financial gymnastics.

Lynch will reportedly demand upwards of $1 million per year to move to another club and for the Pies to accommodate this, they will have to let go of some of their 19 out of contract players.

Collingwood chief executive Mark Anderson has acknowledged the crammed list that the club already has.

"Like all clubs you are right near the capacity of 100 per cent. Most clubs are in that position so we are no different to that,’’ Anderson told heraldsun.com.au.

“Your list management is that skill of managing that right across the next few weeks and ensuring you are keeping the right players and working through that.”

Gold Coast's chances to make finals are looking slimmer and slimmer and if it becomes a reality and Lynch hasn't yet committed to the team, he will have a total of five weeks to meet with interested clubs before making a decision.
