Collingwood are reportedly mulling over the concept of selling a home game interstate in a move that would help the club strengthen its finances.
The Magpies were home to the third-largest membership tally in the AFL last year, recording 100,384 members, while seven of their 11 home matches in the 2022 season pulled in more than 40,000 fans.
Clubs are eligible to sell home matches interstate for financial gain, with St Kilda having previously called Cairns, New Zealand and China home in a bid to aid their debt.
The Magpies could become the next Melbourne club to plan a match outside of Victoria, with new Collingwood chief executive Craig Kelly "exploring" the idea of selling a home game interstate, according to Triple M's Tom Browne.
"I detected when I was up in Brisbane that Collingwood is interested in taking one of their games interstate," Browne said.
"You can call it selling or getting money from it, that would be highly profitable. They've got a lot of supporters nationally.
"So if they married that up with an existing game interstate, for example if you took a team up to Brisbane then went down the coast for the next week to face the Suns, Collingwood could turn that into a two-week extravaganza. They'd make a lot of money.
"They'd also make a lot of money from taking a game to Perth. So they are exploring that."
Both Hawthorn and North Melbourne have built strong relationships with Tasmania across the past decade, with both Victorian clubs renewing their deals with the Apple Isle ahead of the 2023 season.
Melbourne will face GWS at Traeger Park in Alice Springs later this year, while Gold Coast will play two games at TIO Stadium in Darwin across Rounds 11 and 12.
