Collingwood has unveiled the guernsey numbers for its 2024 AFL Draft class, with the club's new draftees stepping into the AIA Vitality Centre for the first time as Magpies.

Each player has been assigned a number with deep roots in the club's history, adding a special touch to their transition to the AFL.

Joel Cochran โ€“ Number 27

Selected with pick 47, key defender Joel Cochran will don the number 27 in his debut season. Cochran, known for his elite endurance and versatility, follows in the footsteps of past Magpie greats Murray Weideman (180 games) and Craig Starcevich (124 games). His exceptional performance at the National Draft Combine, where he clocked the fastest 2km time trial (6:05), highlights the athleticism he brings to the team.

Charlie West โ€“ Number 29

Key forward Charlie West, taken at pick 50, will wear number 29, previously worn by Joe Richards. West's locker will sit alongside captain Darcy Moore, adding significance to his selection. Three players have played more than 100 games in the number, including Scott Russell (182 games) and Kevin Rose (169 games). Known for his contested marking and speed, West brings South Australian pedigree to the forward line.

Will Hayes โ€“ Number 39

Speedy winger Will Hayes, selected at pick 56, takes on the number 39, famously worn by 2010 premiership player Heath Shaw. Hayes impressed at the draft combine with his agility and endurance and is expected to add pace and creativity to the Magpies' midfield and wing rotations.

The trio will officially begin their AFL careers when Collingwood's full playing list returns to training on Monday.

The Magpies have high hopes for their new recruits, with GM of Football Graham Wright stating, โ€œeach of our selections has great potential, and we're looking forward to helping them develop into key contributors for our team.โ€

Collingwood fans will get their first glimpse of the new numbers in action during the pre-season matches as the next generation of Magpies steps onto the field.
