Collingwood midfield-forward Joe Richards has requested a trade to Port Adelaide.

The speedy Magpie has been able to choose his next club as his contract expired with the cessation of the 2024 season.

Richards is not eligible for free agency, meaning the Power will need to broker a trade with Collingwood.

Richards has played who has played nine games for Collingwood, having made his debut this year against West Coast.

"Collingwood forward Joe Richards has informed the Club of his decision to request a trade to Port Adelaide," a club statement read.

"The 24-year-old was drafted to Collingwood at pick 48 in the 2022 AFL National Draft and has played nine games at AFL level.

"The Club will discuss the request with Port Adelaide."

Port Adelaide holds Picks 39 and 57 for this year's draft and can access their 2025 selections.

The Magpies are exploring a move for Port Adelaide player Dan Houston, which could be aided by Richard's' request to land at Alberton.

The Power is planning to acquire Gold Coast forward Jack Lukosius to the club this trade period, which will close next Wednesday night.
