Second-year Collingwood defender Tew Jiath is likely to avoid a suspension for tripping Sydney's Caiden Cleary during a VFL game over the weekend.
A first quarter incident involving the pair earned the scrutiny of the VFL's Match Review Panel, which handed Jiath a tripping charge.
The base sanction for the offence, which was graded as a low-level offence and a first offence of its kinda against Jiath's record, results in a one-game suspension.
An early plea, which will likely be submitted, will reduce the suspension to a fine of $300 and a reprimand.
A decision from Jiath and the Magpies will follow, with the young Magpies backman likely to take the early plea and avoid a case with the Tribunal.
The charge was the only offence from Round 1 of the VFL in what was a thankfully quiet start to the year for the state league competition and its MRP.
Cleary was not limited as a result of the incident, with the young Swans midfielder amassing a game-high 37 disposals to go with eight clearances in his maiden outing this year.
The Magpies were eventual winners in the season opener, recording a 25-point victory to get their VFL campaign off on a positive note.
An avoided suspension for Jiath will mean the young Magpie is available for next week's game against Coburg, with Collingwood scheduled for a Round 2 bye.
Jiath could be in contention for an AFL recall in the wake of Reef McInnes' ACL setback, with fellow fringe defenders Billy Frampton and Jakob Ryan also likely in the mix after positive performances against the Swans.
Collingwood's next AFL game is scheduled for Thursday, April 3 against Carlton at the MCG.
