Collingwood could welcome back forward Jamie Elliott for Friday's clash with Geelong, while a pair of backmen are needing to prove their fitness as well ahead of the crunch match.

Elliott has not played since Round 8 due to a back injury and subsequent vascular concerns, with initial fears sparking concerns the premiership Magpie might not return this year.

Following an extensive training block for the sharpshooting forward, Elliott will rely on Wednesday's main session to potentially prove his fitness and be in the selection mix for this week to face Geelong.

Collingwood will have ruckman Darcy Cameron (ribs) and wingman Jeremy Howe (hamstring) available for the game despite recent injury niggles, while flanker John Noble is in line to exit concussion protocols for this week.

Defensive pair Isaac Quaynor (toe) and Oleg Markov (adductor) will be assessed for issues collected in last week's loss to Essendon, with the former unable to train on Monday as he deals with another injury.

Other senior Magpies Mason Cox (knee, 1-2 weeks), Beau McCreery (calf, 3-5 weeks), Tom Mitchell (foot, 2-4 weeks) and the recently injury Brody Mihocek (pectoral, 10-12 weeks) remain sidelined.

Forward Dan McStay is continuing to inch closer to a return from an ACL injury suffered in December, with the club to continue monitoring his return to play plans.

Collingwood face Geelong at the MCG on Friday night at 7:40pm (AEST) as they look to snap a two-game losing run.
