The Age journalist Rohan Connolly has listed his top five players who went on to excel at their next clubs.

For SEN.com.au Connolly give reasons behind each selection, and while some interesting names feature, it's no surprise who tops the list.

3. Bernie Quinlan

"177 games at Footscray and then went to Fitzroy and kicked 576 goals with consecutive Colemans along the way. Footscray had a habit of letting good players go. In the late 70โ€™s and early 80โ€™s Footscray were in big financial trouble, so they had to sell a lot of players," Connolly said.
